Where are you currently at in your career path and why did you decide to pursue this career path?

I am a 1st Semester Doctorate CRNA Student. I chose to pursue the anesthesia path because it is a field that still allows me to care for patients but in an extensive, more autonomous way that no other field is able to do. Anesthesia will allow me to be that mad scientist I have always wanted to be, at the head of the bed, utilizing my knowledge of drugs and the human body.

If you could go back and have a chat with your naïve college freshman self, what would you tell her?

Keep your eyes on the prize.

What advice would you give to someone looking to pursue a similar path as yours?

Keep your goal deeply rooted in your mind, and do not let up until you reach your goal. Don’t EVER let anyone tell you that you can’t do something, because most often than not, they are projecting their fears onto you!

What advice would you give to someone getting ready to start their application process to CRNA programs?

Be honest, show them what makes you different, and don’t be afraid to brag about yourself.

What do you like to do for fun?

I love trying to new restaurants and playing outside with my Great Dane.

What did you do during the summer before you started your CRNA program?

Traveled!

What do you do to get through the stressful nature of your program?

Make sure I allow myself some “me” time, it’s okay to take a break, watch junk TV and eat junk food. I always allow myself to have some normalcy.

What is it like attending school in your city/town?

Durham is an up and coming city; it is small enough to try everything once, but getting big enough so that you are never bored.

What were some of your involvements in college? Have those involvements helped you in any way in your program?

I was a D1 soccer player in college, and I think the biggest thing it helped me with was time management. If I wasn’t in class or clinical, I was at lifting, team meals, on a plane, the field, or practice. There wasn’t much time for anything else, so now just “doing” school is something I can handle.

Who are some of your favorite musicians? Favorite books? Shows? Movies?

I am a Harry Potter nerd through and through! LOVE anything Scandal, Greys, or HTGAWM (RIP Wes)!!

Thank you so much for your words of wisdom and for sharing a piece of yourself with us Aisha! You are much appreciated! And I also think that your YouTube channel is pretty awesome! Kudos to you for keeping up with that and continuing to pave the way forward for those who wish to be in your shoes one day!
