Where are you currently at in your career path and why did you decide to pursue this career path?

I’m currently a 1st year medical student!

If you could go back and have a chat with your naïve college freshman self, what would you tell her?

I would have told my naïve freshman self to STOP STRESSING SO MUCH. I’m definitely a stress ball but I have learned that stressing about things you can’t change is a waste of energy.

What is a major challenge you have had to overcome and how did you do so?

Finding a good balance between work and play has always been difficult for me. I try to surround myself with people that are also focused on achieving their goals but know when it’s time to relax and have a good time.

Do you have another professional degree? If so, how has it impacted you?

I don’t have any other professional degrees.

What advice would you give to someone getting ready to start their application process to medical schools?

Turn in all your application materials as early as possible and stay on top of your secondaries.

Did you take some time off before medical school? If so, what did you do during that time?

I started medical school right out of undergrad!

What do you like to do for fun?

I like trying new restaurants, shopping, watching movies, and crafting.

What do you feel is the most challenging part of medical school? The easiest part?

The hardest part of professional school is time management. The easiest part for me is being relatively close to my family compared to undergrad.

What did you do during the summer before you started medical school?

Medical College of GA offers a pre-matriculation program that minority students and non-traditional students can participate in, so I was a part of that program the summer before school started.

What do you do to get through the stressful nature of medical school?

Lean on my close friends and family.

What is it like attending school in your city/town?

Augusta, GA is a small city and there isn’t a whole lot going on here. The benefit to being here is that there aren’t very many distractions. It’s also nice that Atlanta is only a 2hr drive from here.

Who are some of your favorite musicians? Favorite books? Shows? Movies?

I like J. Cole a lot. My favorite book is Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell. My favorite show is Modern Family, and my favorite movie is The Sound of Music.

Thank you for sharing a bit about yourself with us Sade! Your words are much appreciated! Continue to prosper in med school!!
